Singer Sista Afia has revealed that she once struck a male fan with a microphone, sending him to the hospital, after he inappropriately touched her while she was making her way to the stage during a performance.
Speaking about the challenges she faces as a performer, the “Jeje” hitmaker said the incident happened at a show where organisers failed to control the crowd properly.
She recounted that while moving through the audience to reach the stage, a fan suddenly grabbed her inappropriately.
“I hate it when people try to touch me when I’m going on stage, especially fans. One time, someone pressed me so hard—I think it was my front bit—that I lost it. The first thing I did was act to protect myself,” she said.
According to Sista Afia, she reacted out of instinct and struck the man with her microphone, adding that the blow was severe enough to send him to the hospital.
She said the incident was never reported publicly and was soon forgotten. However, she believes it underscores the urgent need for better crowd control and stronger security measures at entertainment events to ensure the safety of performers.
