Dear News Editor,
I hope this email finds you well.
I am writing to request your assistance in bringing attention to a matter affecting residents of our community within the Ga East Municipality.
For more than 17 years, the road serving our neighborhood has remained in a deplorable condition. Every rainy season, the road becomes almost impassable, making it extremely difficult for residents to access other parts of Accra for work, school, healthcare, and other essential activities. Despite numerous years of living with this challenge, we have seen little improvement.
Out of frustration and a desire to improve our living conditions, residents have decided to contribute our own money to purchase gravel to rehabilitate the section of road immediately in front of our homes. We are taking this initiative because we can no longer continue waiting for the road to be repaired.
However, heavy equipment is required to properly lay the gravel and reshape the road. When we approached the Ga East Municipal Assembly for assistance, we were informed that we would have to pay approximately GH₵10,000 for the machinery and related work.
As ordinary residents already paying out of our own pockets to purchase the gravel, we find it deeply concerning that we are also being asked to bear the cost of equipment needed to carry out what we understand to be part of the Assembly’s responsibility to maintain local roads.
We believe this situation raises important questions about public service delivery and the condition of infrastructure in our community. We are therefore appealing to your newsroom to visit our neighborhood, inspect the road, speak with affected residents, and seek the Assembly’s response so that the public can hear all sides of the issue.
We are ready to provide photographs, videos, and any additional information your reporters may require, and we would be grateful if you could help shine a light on the challenges our community has endured for nearly two decades.
Thank you for your time and consideration. We hope you will consider covering this matter in the public interest.
Yours faithfully,
Nyameye Obeng-Akuamoah
