Food safety crackdown: FDA closes several eateries on Osu Oxford Street without hygiene permit

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has temporarily shut down a number of food service establishments along Oxford Street in Osu for operating without the mandatory Food Hygiene Permit.

The enforcement exercise formed part of the Authority's routine food safety inspections aimed at ensuring compliance with food hygiene regulations and protecting public health.

The FDA said the affected businesses would remain closed until they meet the required regulatory conditions and obtain the necessary permit.

"The FDA today carried out food safety inspections at Oxford Street, Osu, leading to the temporary closure of some food service establishments for operating without the FDA Food Hygiene Permit," the Authority said in a social media post shared on Thursday, July 17.

According to the FDA, the affected establishments will not be allowed to resume operations until they secure a valid Food Hygiene Permit Certificate.

The Authority used the opportunity to remind food vendors and restaurant operators of their obligation to comply with food safety regulations before operating.

"The FDA once again reminds all food businesses to regularize their operations by obtaining the mandatory Food Hygiene Permit to avoid closure and fines," the statement added.

The Authority has in recent months intensified inspections and enforcement exercises across the country as part of efforts to improve food safety standards and ensure businesses comply with regulatory requirements.
