‘You can't hate pork and eat its soup’ — Kevin Taylor tells Okyeame Kwame on non-partisan claim

US-based Ghanaian media personality Kevin Taylor has hit back at claims by legendary Ghanaian rapper Okyeame Kwame that he remains politically neutral, despite being appointed to Vice President Bawumia's campaign team.

In a social media post on Saturday, February 24, Kevin Taylor questioned how the rapper can advise Dr. Bawumia's election bid while professing non-partisanship.

According to the vocal broadcaster noted that there is no way someone who is helping a politician win an election through policy proposal csn be non-aligned.

"You can’t be an American moslem, you don’t eat pork but you drink pork soup. You accepted to be on a CAMPAIGN committee and the end game is to help Mahamudu Bawumia win the election. In short you are doing politics."

Okyeame Kwame had issued a statement clarifying that he remains apolitical in his career, after facing criticism for agreeing to advise the ruling party's creative arts manifesto.

In a statement released on Saturday, February 24, Okyeame Kwame said "I wish to reassure my respected following and reiterate that I remain non-partisan and apolitical, as I have been throughout my entire career."

He added that "I have not been paid by H.E. The Vice President's campaign team to be a member of the committee for the arts and tourism manifesto nor have officially been invited on my terms as non-partisan participant."

He expressed appreciation to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team for considering his experience.

The 'Asor' hitmaker further noted "when it comes to contributing policy opinion towards the advancement of the Arts and Culture in Ghana, I am respectfully open to all political or ideological persuasions."

Okyeame Kwame concluded by reaffirming his commitment to serving Ghana through his art.

“I remain the consummate professional you have known for 26 years and counting. I have pledged myself to the service of Ghana, in all fields of my competence, with all my strength and with all my heart,” read the statement.
