Ghanaian singer and songwriter, Noella Wiyaala Nwadei, popularly known as Wiyaala, has confidently addressed the perception that she is more recognized internationally than in her homeland, Ghana.
In a recent interview on "Rush Hour" with RazaSwaggy in Cape Coast, Wiyaala dismissed the notion, asserting her popularity in Ghana.
Wiyaala responded to critics who claim she performs more abroad than in Ghana, stating that she frequently performs in her home country, particularly at corporate events.
She emphasized that not all her performances are shared on social media, and her popularity should not be gauged solely based on online visibility.
The "Leno" hitmaker expressed disregard for those who question her popularity in Ghana, labeling them as shallow-minded and shortsighted.
She acknowledged that her unique music style, which combines folk, traditional, and African elements, may not appeal to everyone but emphasized the importance of diverse musical craft.
Wiyaala confidently asserted her popularity, attributing it not only to her unique talent but also to her physique.
She stated, "I know I am popular in Ghana. If I was not popular, you would not be interviewing me right now."
Wiyaala made her debut in the Ghanaian music scene in 2009 with her first album, "Tumu," and has since achieved success, performing on international stages and receiving numerous awards.
She headlined the 15th London African Music Festival in 2017 and became a member of the Grammy Recording Academy in July 2022.
