Upper East: Angry group fumes over the region’s exclusion from the $500 million national feeder roads project

The leadership of Alagumgube has expressed strong dissatisfaction over the exclusion of the Upper East Region from a $500 million national feeder roads project reportedly approved for development across the country.

According to available details, the loan facility is intended to improve feeder road networks nationwide, with all 13 regions said to have benefited from allocations. However, the Upper East Region and North East Region were not included in the distribution, while Greater Accra was reportedly excluded on the basis that it is mainly served by urban roads.

The situation has sparked concern among stakeholders in the Upper East Region, with Alagumgube describing the decision as unfair and calling for urgent reconsideration by the President and the Ministry of Roads and Highways.

The group argues that the region has consistently supported the governing political leadership over the years and therefore deserves equitable development projects. A leading voice within the advocacy, Mr. Gabriel Agambila, also stressed that the region must not be left out of national development priorities.

He stated: “The Upper East is not part of the big push, and if we are not part of the feeder roads project, then when would they ever consider a region that has given 15/15?”

Mr. Agambila further appealed to the region’s 15 Members of Parliament to be more proactive in championing development initiatives.

“We sent them to Parliament to fight for the development of the region, not to engage in internal divisions,” he reportedly emphasized, adding that MPs in other regions actively lobby for infrastructure projects while those in the Upper East must do the same.

Alagumgube is urging government to ensure fair distribution of infrastructure investments and to avoid further marginalisation of already underserved regions.
