Renowned Nigerian singer Naira Marley is demanding N500 million in damages from Nigerian actress Iyabo Ojo over allegedly libellous posts she made about him on Instagram.
In a "Pre-Action Protocol" letter dated December 12 and signed by his legal representative Olalekan Ojo & Co, Naira Marley accused Iyabo Ojo of publishing defamatory words against him on her verified Instagram handle in September accusing Naira of killing his late former signee Mohbad.
The letter contained quotes from Iyabo Ojo's posts, including one where she said "Naira Marley you sabotaged that boy (Ilerioluwa Aloba Mohbad) you frustrated him, dealt with him spiritually, mentally, physically."
Naira Marley's lawyers described the posts as "unarguably clear... meant or were understood to mean... our Client is a drug addict and that he laced the food and drinks which our Client gave to the boys staying with him with drugs."
They demanded a public apology within 7 days, N500 million—approximately US$640,000 in damages and an injunction.
Failing compliance, they threatened legal proceedings at the Lagos High Court.
"Our client requires of you within seven days from the receipt of this letter an unqualified apology," a quote from the letter read.
