Revealed: How football injury led to Bob Marley’s untimely death

Bob Marley, the legendary Jamaican musician and pioneer of reggae music, passed away tragically at the age of 36 from melanoma skin cancer.

According to Historic Vids, a history-sharing Twitter account, Marley’s cancer diagnosis stemmed from an injury to his toe during one of his football games in 1977.

Marley, an avid soccer player who founded his own club in Jamaica, suffered a minor foot injury that required medical attention.

During an examination, doctors discovered melanoma under one of Marley’s toenails.

They recommended amputating the toe to prevent the spread of the cancer, but Marley refused due to concerns over impairing his athletic abilities.

“Soccer was Bob’s greatest passion outside of music,” cited Historic Vids on Twitter added. “He just couldn’t imagine losing a toe and not being able to play at the level he was accustomed to.”

Tragically, the cancer developed over the next three years, weakening Marley’s health and dreadlocks.

In 1980, reports say family and friends gathered for a ceremony to cut off Marley’s dreadlocks, which had become too heavy for him to bear.
