New Release Sarkodie’s “Stir It Up” remix with Bob Marley is out
FRI, 20 JAN 2023

The new version of Bob Marley’s "Stir It Up" track with African rap idol Sarkodie is finally out on all streaming platforms.

The news took many by surprise when the camp of the late reggae icon announced the feature on their social media handles on Wednesday, January 18.

This is a record-breaking feature for the Ghanaian rapper, who is arguably the most decorated rapper on the African continent.

The original track of the newly-released remix was done by Bob Marley and the Wailers in 1973, which still remains relevant in recent times.

With the feature, the record-holding African rapper has extended his accolades to become the first African rapper to achieve that feat.

Reacting to a flier from Bob Marley’s team on social media, the "Countryside" hitmaker averred that the feature is the biggest in his life and a good way to start 2023.

"What a way to kick start this year!!! Definitely one of the highest moments in my career/Life... Big shouts to the team at island records @akosuas__ @Jaykjs and the Marley family for getting me on this amazing project by the legend #bobmarley... such a blessing to lay my vocals right next to the original vocals of the Gong..." he reacted.

The track comes to confirm the earlier comment from his camp about doing a feature with an artist who is bigger than American rapper Jay-Z.

"Stir It Up" was the first Marley-written song to be successful outside of Jamaica.

It is believed to be a song the singer used to eulogise his lover, Rita Marley, who was based in Ghana.

In September 1993, the Australian band The Black Sorrows released a version of the song. It became a hit, peaking at number 58 in Australia, number 20 in New Zealand (where it is the band's highest charting single), and number nine in Iceland.

At the 1994 ARIA Music Awards, Joe Camilleri was nominated for Producer of the Year for his work on this song, but lost out to Tony Cohen.
