Don Dada of South Africa and Jamaica’s Shav-A cover NO NO NO classic

Jamaican SHAV-A and South Africa based DON DADA unite to bring their rendition of a classic track in their new single titled “NO NO NO’ in a unique collaboration with G SHAV Music Productions. The track produced by GARY G and SLY DUNBAR is now available on all music platforms after its July 23, 2021 release.

History of NO NO NO

The first recorded composition of “You Don’t Love Me” in 1960 for Mojo Records, a record label in Memphis, Tennessee, owned by Billy Lee Riley was accomplished by Willie Cobbs (born July 15, 1932) an American blues singer, harmonica player, and songwriter. The recording was leased to Vee-Jay Records for release.

Since then cover versions have been recorded by various artists, including the Allman Brothers Band; Grateful Dead; Richie Kotzen; Kaleidoscope; Quicksilver Messenger Service; John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers; Junior Wells; Magic Sam; and Mike Bloomfield, Al Kooper, and Stephen Stills on their 1968 album Super Session.

It was first made popular in Jamaica in the 1967 rocksteady rendition by Dawn Penn, entitled “You Don’t Love Me (No, No, No)” with Penn’s 1994 version of the song becoming a commercial success worldwide. In the United Kingdom, it peaked at number three on the UK Singles Chart.

The song also reached the top 20 in Austria and Switzerland, and the top 40 in the Netherlands and New Zealand. In the United States, the single also charted at number 58 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and at number 42 on the Hot R&B Singles chart. NME magazine ranked it at number 24 in their list of the 50 best songs of 1994.

Multiple recording artists have performed cover versions and sampled “You Don’t Love Me (No, No, No)” in their works. Barbadian singer Rihanna remade the song for her debut studio album, Music of the Sun (2005), and American entertainer Beyoncé performed the song on her I Am… World Tour concert tour (2009–10).

The Don Dada vibe to the rhythm

2021 sees the release of NO NO NO with Jamaica influence and Africa baritone Don Dada digitally distributed through Content Connect Africa with Jamaican-born and raised Dynamic singer and songwriter Shavanique Allen aka Shav-A daughter of internationally acclaimed reggae star Admiral Tibet.

Combining the deep rhythmic voice of Don Dada With the sultry vocals of Shav-A, this version of “NO NO NO” takes the listener on a journey through time by adding its own stamp of authenticity and relevance as the music continues to draw inspiration from the past. Fusing Hip Hop, reggae, and R&B over the ever immaculate production of Gary G and Sly Dunbar brings to live the classiness of legendary Grammy-winning duo, Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare of the Taxi Gang who produced for the likes of The Rolling Stones, Grace Jones, The Beatles & Shaggy amongst others.

Shav-A and Don Dada’s rendition is sexy, hypnotic, and infectious, making this the first time in the illustrious history of the song that it is released to include an artist in Africa through Ruff Cutt Studio and Don Dada respectively working in conjunction with G Shav music, Mark Stonecold Hudson and Content Connect Africa. As Don Dada himself says: “I am an African because my spirit cries for the soil, determined to take Afrika to the world, knowing this is the time for Afrika.“

Shav-A brings in the goddess touch

Shav-A is a dynamic Jamaican singer and songwriter whose musical career is poised to attain new heights. Shav-A, whose full name is Shavanique Allen, comes from musical roots as her father. She was surrounded by music through her early life and so it was no’ surprising that she would take a keen interest in becoming a singer.

Consequently, at the age of 10 with the full support of both her parents, Shav-A began singing in the church choir as well as at the many talent shows held in and around the sunshine city of Portmore, St. Catherine where she grew up in Jamaica. After many years developing her craft as a singer and now being of age, Shav-A along with two other siblings began touring with their father, Admiral Tibet as backing vocalists. The experiences gained, and the thrill of performing to audiences in Jamaica and abroad opened her eyes to the fact that she truly wanted to pursue a solo career.

Shav-A’s exposure to many musical genres has greatly influenced her creativity and style, which has resulted in her songs incorporating a blend of these influences. As a result, fans can expect in the future to hear her refreshingly soulful vocals on a different combination such as Pop-Reggae, Soca Reggae, EDM (Electronic Dance Music), and Dancehall.
