On Saturday 18th of August 2018, The Africa Centre Summer Festival on Great Suffolk Street brought together some Africans and many others who believe in the tradition, culture and heritage of the continent.

On the air and on the ground, projecting the sights and sounds of Africa by kind courtesy of the Africa Centre through the Africa Centre Summer Festival which was sponsored by Ecobank and supported by the mayor of London, Colourful Radio transmitted the festival across the world on Colourfulradio.com.

And listeners in Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow were not left out as Colourful Radio reached them through the ability of its digital audio broadcast platforms for the second year running.

Moving from strength to strength the festival seems to be gaining much grounds and awareness with respect to audience reach and participation.

This year patrons were spoilt for choice as to which stage to choose from when it comes to entertainment.

This is because there were three stages positioned at vantage points of the festival, depending on one's musical tastes and flavours.

The Africa Music Stage had the likes of 'Moving Assembly Project and Dance Company, Babatone, Kadialy Kouyate and Chineke Junior Quartet.

The other musicians were Saidi JJ Kanda And Mvula Mandondo, Kinetika Bloco, Homebros and Myself UK Dance Company.

The main stage would not have arguably been eclectic and vibrant without the likes of Wiyaala with her special guest Atongo Zimba from Ghana, Kanda Bongoman, Dotman, Okzharp and Manthe Ribane completing the line up of powerful artistes.

The various musicians did their best to raise the level of expectations from their fans but most notably was that of Kanda Bongoman and Wiyaala.

Kanda Bongoman captivated the crowd with his best songs and great dancing moves backed by his wonderful band.

Anyone would be forgiven to name Wiyaala as the current 'Queen Of African Energy' this is due to the way she drew attention from almost every corner of the crowd.

Her dancing is uniquely different., and her voice is just as soulful and powerful as a musician whose talent knows no boundaries.

The other stages that got the festival on its feet were the 'Youth Dance Stage' and the 'Black British Music Stage'.

The Africa Centre Music Festival has once again showcased real talents from Africa and her diaspora in connecting them to the Africa Centre's main values.

And in those values, one could see the traces and fabrics of the African Culture, the sense of 'Entrepreneurship and Innovation' the basis of 'Intellectual', the importance of 'Education' as well as the the 'Social' aspect of its ultimate mission.

Since Africa is one massive continent full of many countries, who knows which musician is next in line to take the main stage by storm at next year's Africa Centre Summer Festival.

And with privilege, those lucky artistes will be showing the world what Africa is made up of musically.

In his speech, the director of the Africa Centre Kenneth Olumuyiwa Tharp CBE paid tributes to both Kofi Annan and Aretha Franklin. And indeed his speech contained and encapsulated the importance of the Africa Centre and its mission.

The Africa Centre Summer Festival truly hoisted Leading lights of African music.
