North London borough of Harrow Mayor, Cllr Nana Asante and Mayoress Awula Serwah were in Harrow's twinned town of Douai, France, over the weekend where they participated in the Fêtes de Gayant ceremonies.
At an official lunch, which included the town's dignitaries and representatives of Douai's twinned towns in Germany, Bukina Faso and Poland, Cllr Asante presented Douai Mayor, Jacques Vernier, with a box set of made in Ghana Golden Tree chocolates and cocoa products, and a copy of the 'African Voices: Quotations By People Of African Descent' book.
“Twinning is valuable, and a source of real friendship,' said Cllr Asante, who then highlighted a quote by Muhammed Ali from the book: 'Friendship is difficult to explain. It is not taught in schools, but if you have not learnt what it is, you really have not learnt anything.
'Twinning with Douai has useful lessons to teach us in Harrow,” added Cllr Asante, Harrow's first continental African mayor.
