New Patriotic Party (NPP) communication team member, Kwasi Kwarteng has called on the government to reopen Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), which he says has remained closed for 75 days over allegations of misconduct against its headmaster.
He urged the Education Minister to take immediate steps to reopen the school, arguing that students should not continue to suffer because of allegations against the headmaster.
“Mr. Education Minister, 75 days is far too long to keep an entire school closed while students pay the price for allegations of misconduct against the very authority entrusted with their welfare,” he said on Facebook.
Kwarteng also alleged that the headmaster was a board member of the National Film Authority and called on the President to suspend his membership pending a full-scale investigation into the matter.
“The President must also as a matter of urgency suspend his membership from the board of National Films Authority pending full scale investigation into the matter,” he added.
He further criticised the Gender Minister for what he described as a lack of comparable attention to the girls allegedly affected by the incident, urging her to prioritise their welfare and support.
“I am equally calling on the Gender Minister, who recently found time to visit Nana Akua Addo with cameras, to demonstrate same compassion for these vulnerable and abused girls. They need your support more!” he said.
Kwarteng maintained that the students should not bear the consequences of the allegations against the headmaster and called for the school to reopen while the matter is investigated.
