Two-time Grammy Award winner, Timbaland will be honoured during this year's VH1 Hip Hop Honours. For the first time in the seven-year history of the 'VH1 Hip Hop Honours,' a particular region of the country will be celebrated for its music, influence, and artists; and super-producer Timbaland will be centre stage.
Timbaland will be honoured for his groundbreaking contributions to hip-hop on the '2010 VH1 Hip Hop Honours: The Dirty South,' airing on VH1 on Monday, June 7 at 9 PM ET/PT. Artists like Snoop Dogg, Ludacris, Jay-Z, Gnarls Barkley, Missy Elliot, and Gucci Mane will recognize Timbaland for his many contributions to Hip-Hop in the form of hit records.
Noting that the South has helped propel hip-hop into the worldwide cultural phenomenon that it has become today, the '2010 VH1 Hip Hop Honours: The Dirty South,' hosted by actor/comedian Craig Robinson ('The Office'), will shine the spotlight on Timbaland, who has stamped his indelible imprint on the music scene since the mid-1990s. Other artists of the Dirty South will also be honoured.
Hailing from Virginia, where he produces most of his music at his own studio and where he heads his own label (Mosley Music Group), Timbaland has created a trademark innovative sound that crosses cultural lines and has defined a new wave of music - R&B and hip-hop mixed with eclectic effects held together by complex syncopated beats. The result has been a series of career-defining hits for artists such as Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado, Jodeci, Aaliyah, Missy Elliott, Destiny's Child, Ludacris, Snoop Dogg and Jay-Z, among many others.
The two-time Grammy winner, Timbaland has spawned numerous imitators, yet he remains the acknowledged originator. Timbaland's most recent Top 40 Hot 100 hits have spun off from 2009's Top 10 R&B/Hip-hop Timbaland Presents Shock Value II (Mosley Music Group/Interscope): 'If We Ever Meet Again' featuring Katy Perry, 'Carry Out' featuring Justin Timberlake and 'Say Something' featuring Drake. His third solo album, Shock Value II followed 2007's Shock Value, a Top 5, platinum smash across the globe that scored three Top 3 Hot 100 hits, including the #1 Pop, triple platinum 'Apologize' featuring OneRepublic.
