Afro-pop songtress Becca has registered the first batch of 100 kids from her estimated 10,000 children onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) at the Princess Marie Louise Hospital (Children’s Hospital) in Accra.

At the short but impressive ceremony, officials from the NHIS took turns to register the selected children.

After the registration exercise, Becca visited the various wards of the hospital to interact with the children on admission and their parents. She wished the children speedy recovery, Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.

The Medical Superidendent in charge of the hospital, Dr. Eric Sefah on behalf of the children and their parents thanked Becca and wished her well in all her endeavours.

Mr. William Sabi, Operations Manger of NHIS also thanked the artiste for her initiative, which he described as laudable and pledged the total support of the scheme towards the venture.

He said the major objective of the NHIS was to provide health care to vulnerable kids across the length and breadth of the country and noted that Becca’s initiative would certainly increase the enrolment to the scheme.

Becca recently embarked upon a project to raise $150, 000 to register 10,000 children onto the NHIS across the country. She hopes to sustain the project for as long as possible.

As her personal contribution towards the project, she has already pledged a portion of the sales of her digital music and made her first payment during the launch of the project.

In addition to the project, a charity event dubbed Becca’s Children Ball which will help raise awareness and funds to support unfortunate children whose parents cannot afford to pay their hospital bills or buy drugs comes off at the Banquet hall in Accra on February 13, 2010.

Becca, herself, the legendary South African musician, Hugh Masekela and Basket Mouth from Nigeria, will perform at the Charity Ball. Share Your Thoughts on this article Name Email Location Comments Graphic Ghana may edit your comments and not all comments will be published
