
It was rout as Kotoko scored another first on 3rd December, 1978. Kotoko after the victory in the first ever FA Cup final clash between a division two club and a division one side became the first club to represent Ghana in the Africa Caf Winners Cup.
Kotoko routed the giant killers, Gold Stars by 7-1 to set the highest win in the history of the FA Cup final.
Abdul Razak drew the first blood for the Porcupine Warriors in the 8th minute, before in the 21st minute they doubled the score line through Joe Sam, who was caught in an offside position. After this incident the referee seemed to have lost control over the game, which resulted in five minute hold-up and forced the 1st half to last for an hour.
A player of Stars got injured in the 28th, but referee Provencal ignored the foul and allowed play to continue, prompting an official of Gold Stars to confront him. Referee called for the removal of the official from the pitch causing another delay.
Razak made it 3-0 in the 36th minute from the spot kick after Gold Stars protested Afayibo's red card.
The underdogs were gifted a penalty for Kofi Amponsah to pull one back in the 44th minute. However, Opoku Afriyie made it 4-1 in the 47th minute in favour of Kotoko, before Joe Sam made it 5-1 in the 57th minute.
Kotoko continued their assualt on Gold Stars and completed the rout with two goals from Opoku Afriyie in the 63rd minute and the 74th minute.
Note: The Gold Stars team in question was based at Tarkwa and it is different from the current Gold Stars based at Bibiani.
