2026 World Cup: GFA unveils Black Stars squad numbers for tournament

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially announced the squad numbers for the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with several key players retaining their familiar shirts as Ghana prepares for its fifth appearance at the global showpiece.

Goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi has been handed the iconic number 1 jersey, while captain Jordan Ayew will continue to wear his preferred number 9 shirt.

Forward Brandon Thomas-Asante has been assigned the number 10 jersey, with Antoine Semenyo set to wear number 11 during the tournament.

In the goalkeeping department, St Patrick’s Athletic shot-stopper Joseph Anang will wear number 12, while Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has been allocated number 16.

Defender Derrick Luckassen, who was called up to replace the injured Alexander Djiku, has been assigned the number 23 jersey as he prepares for his first World Cup campaign with the national team.

Among the other notable squad numbers, midfielder Thomas Partey retains his traditional number 5 shirt. Left-back Gideon Mensah will wear number 14, Kwasi Sibo takes number 8, Caleb Yirenkyi has been assigned number 3, while Baba Abdul Rahman will don the number 17 jersey.

The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L for the tournament, where they will face Panama, England and Croatia in the opening round.

Ghana will begin their World Cup journey against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field before taking on England at Gillette Stadium on June 23. The four-time African champions will conclude their group-stage campaign against Croatia on June 27.

As part of their final preparations for the tournament, the Black Stars will play an international friendly against Jamaica on June 10 before travelling to begin their World Cup challenge.
