
1. The 1998 African Cup of Nations joint top scorer is renowned for scoring at age thirty nine (39), five months and twenty four (24) days, becoming the oldest player to do so. Hossam Hassan achieved this feat against DR Congo in 2006.
He scored his first two goals in the African Cup of Nations in 1998 against Mozambique and subsequently emerged the joint top scorer with Benedict McCarthy with seven goals apiece. His last goal in the African Cup of Nations was scored on home soil against DR Congo in the quarter finals of the 2006 AFCON.
Hossam Hassan scored a total of eleven goals in seven (7) African Cup of Nations tournaments and 68 goals in all competitions which makes him the highest goalscorer in the history of Egyptian football.
2. Ayman Mansour of Egypt scored the fastest goal ever in the African Cup of Nations and it came just after 23 seconds of play in Egypt's four nil thrashing of Gabon in 1994 AFCON held in Tunisia
