GFA Must Pack Off — Nyaho-Tamakloe

By Graphic

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe, a no-nonsense politician and football administrator, has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to leave the scene at the end of its tenure and hand over the baton to men with better vision to restore the fortunes of Ghana Soccer.

He said there is enough evidence to prove that the Ben Koufie-led administration had failed to live up to the expectation of Ghanaians and must therefore give way to capable people who can take the nation forward.

Reacting to a Graphic Sports story on the purported campaign for a second term in office by the GFA, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe noted that a fair assessment of the GFA should not warrant another chance for the current FA or its chairman.

According to him, the greatest problem facing the nation, and for that matter Africa, is the inability of officials put in places of trust to just step down when it becomes obvious that they have failed.

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe, known for his abrasive style and one-time chairman of Accra Hearts of Oak, lashed that the Black Stars have achieved nothing under the current FA, much the same way that the junior teams which are supposed to be the nursery for the senior side failed to excel.

He was also blunt about the disgraceful manner the Black Queens struggled to raise funds prior to this year’s Women’s World Cup, among others, as the reasons why the second term idea for Ben Koufie should not be entertained.

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe, under whose chairmanship of Hearts 23 senior players were put on transfer in 1985, leading to the promotion of the Hearts “Musical Youth”, believes that youthfulness, dynamism, maturity and better vision are the vital ingredients needed to transform Ghana football.

The medical practitioner also said an alternative administration with the ability to be fair and firm especially when taking decisions regarding particular clubs will be more preferrable.

“There are too many old hands at the GFA, and it is high time the recycling of old faces changed”, he emphasised.

Dr Tamakloe who stressed that he had no interest in the FA job but was only advocating a change simply because of his love for the game, also requested for a review of the structure of our national teams as well as the criteria for inviting players.

“Our game is completely nosediving and if we’re not careful, we’ll soon be having the funeral of Ghana Soccer while singing its dirge”, he lamented. “We should therefore look back and consider what made our past teams successful and why we are failing now”.

According to him, the no-money syndrome which has bedevilled Ghana Soccer over the years must stop if the nation wants to make any meaningful headway. He also maintained that government nominees to the FA management board should not merely play the role of mouth-pieces for the appointing authorities, but rather be men of vision and instruments of change.
