Ghana's female Under-20 football team, the Black Princesses have qualified for their second successive Women’s World Cup (WWC) after beating Tunisia 4-1 in their last qualifying match played at the Accra Sports Stadium last Saturday.
Just as it happened in the first leg in Tunis two weeks ago, the Princesses had to come from a goal down to win and garner a 7-2 goal aggregate in their very last match in the qualifying series to book their places at the Japan tournament to be staged from August 18 to September 9.
A heavy downpour just two hours before the match cast doubt on the match taking place and when match officials gave the go ahead, it was the Tunisians who enjoyed the cool atmosphere as they had dreaded the hot weather
They thus settled into the game early and gave the Princesses a good run, taking the lead in the 21st minute through a Imem Ben Mrod header which connected from a cornerkick and they held on to that lead till the end of the first half.
If that gave them a ray of hope of beating the Ghanaians, the Tunisians were brought back into reality as three minutes into the second half, player-of-the-match Elizabeth Addo cancelled that lead and seven minutes later, Alice Eva Danso put the Ghanaians into the lead.
From then, the Princesses took control of the game with good runs, effective clearance at the back and insurgent runs into the goal area, making goalkeeper Mariem Ben Sassi the most busiest person on the pitch.
In the 75th minute, US-based Candice Osei-Agyemang who was reuniting with the team since their New Zealand Under-17 WWC exploits, made it three for the Princesses before Addo scored her second on the day and Ghana’s fourth with just five minutes to end proceedings.
With the business taken care lof, the Princesses played an entertaining game in the last five minutes much to the delight of the fans but to the frustration of the Tunisians who played the last 10 minutes without the benefit of touching the ball.
