DCE appeals to Ghanaians to contribute to nation building

Gomoa Assin (C/R), Oct 3, GNA – The District Chief Executive for Gomoa West, Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, has called on Ghanaians to contribute to the development of the nation and stop depending on the nation for all their needs.

“Let us be seen doing something to help in the development of our communities and not sitting down folding our arms and criticise people in authority,” he said.

He was Addressing a durbar at Gomoa Assin to mark the 10th anniversary of the enstoolment of Obirifo Ahunaku Ahor Ankobea II as the Paramount Chief of Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Area.

The DCE commended the Paramount Chief for his contributions to the development of the district especially by ensuring peace.

Mrs Ama Benyiwa-Doe, Central Regional Minister appealed to the people of the area to unite as no development could take place without unity.

Mr Francis Kojo Arthur, the Member of Parliament for Gomoa West, said all the 98 communities in his constituency had been hooked onto the national electricity grid.

He said the number of schools benefitting from the School Feeding Programme had been increased from one to 18.

Mr Arthur expressed concern about poor Basic Education Certificate Examination results in recent times and appealed to parents, teachers and the Education Directorate to find immediate solution to the problem.

Mr P.C. Appiah Ofori, the MP for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa, appealed to politicians to consider the welfare of Ghana first when passing a bill saying towing party lines blindly would not help the nation to develop.

Obirifo Ahunaku Ahor Ankobea said he had established a Land Protection Unit to check land degradation through sand-winning and indiscriminate sale of land in the area.

He appealed to Ghanaians not to see job creation as the responsibility of the government alone but as a collective responsibility.

Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII, Omanhen of Abeadze Dominase and President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs, urged the youth to avail themselves for training in agriculture and skills.

He said agriculture was a lucrative business and the youth must not look down on it.

Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi, a Council of State member, said chieftaincy was facing many challenges and commended Obirifo Ahunaku Ahor Ankobea for surmounting all the challenges to make his 10-year reign a success.
