Black Stars goalkeeping coach Edward Ansah, says Ernest Sowah has a bright future with the senior national football team.

The former national under-23 goalkeeper received his first call up under Serbian coach Goran Stevanovic last February for the friendly with Togo and has since played second fiddle to Richard Kingson.

The 24-year-old helped Berekum Chelsea to win the Glo Premier League title this season but is considered as a big gamble for the international stage.

However, in an interview with E TV Sports, Edward Ansah, who is a former national number one goalkeeper, said he was confident that Ernest Sowah had the potential to succeed.

“Exactly so. He is a promising star honestly,” he said.

“He is doing well. He played for the club that won the league this season and so he is doing well and we need to encourage him.

“His performance in training has been encouraging,” Eddie Ansah stressed.

Black Stars coach Goran Stevanovic has so far overlooked the more experienced Sammy Adjei in his squad selection preferring Ernest Sowah as the second choice goalkeeper to Richard Kingson.

Some local commentators have expressed concern that the Berekum Chelsea goalie lacks the needed exposure to man the Black Stars’ goalpost.

But Edward Ansah, who once made a return to the Black Stars after a nine-year absence in 2003, insists his young protégé has the qualities to succeed at the highest level.

“He is very agile in post. He commands his defenders very well.

“I think those are the attributes that make him to be a good goalkeeper,” Coach Ansah noted.

Sowah first came to the limelight after featuring for the national under-17 team, the Black Starlets, in Peru 2007.

He joined the Premier League side, Tema Youth, from Soccer Missionaries before playing for the national under-23 team, the Black Meteors, in their failed attempt to qualify for the 2008 Olympics.
