Ghana U23 Coach invites 14 foreign-based stars for crucial Olympics qualifier

By Ghanaian Chronicle

In order to breathe life into the seemingly threatened dream of qualifying for the 2012 Olympic Games, under-pressure coach of the National Under-23 team, David Duncan, has pencilled down the names of 14 foreign-based players for Saturday's second leg Olympic qualifier against Sudan, in Khartoum.

Graduates of the 2009 FIFA World Youth Championship winning team are expected to be released by their European clubs to overturn a 1-0 deficit.

Andre Ayew, Dominic Adiyiah, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, Rabiu Mohammed and Ransford Osei are all expected to join the squad for the game.

Finland-based Quincy Osei has already begun training with the team. The match, fixed for April 9, a non FIFA-free date, could prove to be the snag to their release.

Centre-back Jonathan Mensah, who is gradually acquitting himself in the senior national team, the Black Stars, says he will plead with his club to be released to join his colleagues, in order to salvage the Black Meteors' dream.

Full list of players: Andre Ayew (Olympique Marseille), Saddick Addams (Al Hilal,Libya) Jonathan Mensah (Granada), Daniel Addo (FC Zorya), Samuel Afum (FC Smouha), Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu (Udinese), Rabiu Mohammed (Evian Thonon Gaillard),
