Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac is delighted that his captain Stephen Appiah has ended his search for a club after the midfielder signed for Bologna.
The Serbian was resolute in his defence of the skipper even though there were calls for him to axe the midfielder when he was clubless.
But the coach insisted on playing Appiah and he is now thrilled that the confidence he reposed in him has now paid off.
“That was the news we were expecting after he recovered from his injury. I am really happy for him. It's important for him to play for a club and compete on a regular basis,” Rajevac said.
“I never doubted Appiah's ability and always knew a move would come.
“It was just a matter of time. He is a strong player and has character.”
Even though Appiah will benefit personally from the deal with Bologna, the Serbian coach also thinks his deal will help boost the Black Stars.
“For us [Black Stars] it's very important for his confidence. He has stayed strong in those difficult moments which came with lots of criticisms,” the Serbian said.
“Now, he has a great opportunity to come back in his old form. We stand to benefit from it as we have some important competitions coming up.
“Appiah is the leader and when he is playing at his best, there rest of the squad will react,” the Ghana coach said.
The Seriban was the first to call to congratulate the skipper when news of his move broke exclusively on Ghanasoccernet last week.
