Ghana midfielder Derek Boateng hopes of returning to the national team has been dealt a severe blow because of injury.
The Germany-based player was last week handed his first Black Stars call-up since 2006 to play in next month's World Cup qualifiers.
But according to his club FC Cologne, Boateng suffered a shoulder injury in their game against Bochum on Saturday.
The German club said in a statement that Boateng had undergone a successful operation the same day on the shoulder.
He is expected to be fit again in June, which means he will miss the matches against Mali and Sudan all scheduled for next month.
A replacement for the midfielder is unlikely to be named as there are many players in his position from the 32-man team named by Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac.
