Ghanaian development economist and National Democratic Congress (NDC) figure PV Jantuah Dadson has called for an investigation into the reported resignation of the embattled headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai, as chairman of the school’s Old Students’ Association.
Mr. Dadson, who is a member of the association, wants the circumstances surrounding the headmaster’s decision to step down clarified amid ongoing sexual abuse allegations against him.
He questioned whether the resignation was connected to the allegations and called for an explanation to establish the reasons behind the decision.
“What informed him to resign as chairman of the old students’ association? Was it connected to his current alleged crime? What was the reason for his resignation?” Dadson questioned.
The NDC figure also criticised what he described as the negative impact of the conduct of some religious adherents on Ghana’s development, arguing that religious identity should not shield individuals from scrutiny over their actions.
“The reason this country is now where we are and not growing is because of some Christians and Muslims. Some of them, their characters are the reason,” he said.
Mr. Dadson further challenged Mr. Abdulai to publicly respond to the allegations against him, insisting that he should defend himself if the claims were unfounded.
“If the allegation of rape against him is wrong, he should come out and defend himself,” he stated.
