Two suspects have been arrested in Techiman in connection with the alleged murder of Fabulous Ladies footballer Agartha Takyiwa, the club's head coach Nana Atuahene has confirmed.
The 22-year-old was killed on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at Afrancho in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region.
Agartha reportedly sustained multiple stab wounds to her thigh, stomach, and neck during an attack that resulted in the theft of her commercial tricycle, popularly known as a pragya, and mobile phone.
According to Atuahene, Agartha, who worked as a commercial tricycle rider, picked up a female passenger at around 22:30 GMT and was taking her to Afrancho New Site when the incident occurred.
She was reportedly involved in a struggle with suspected assailants over her tricycle before being stabbed. The attackers subsequently fled with the vehicle and her mobile phone.
The suspects were later tracked down through the location of the stolen phone, leading to their arrest in Techiman, according to the coach.
Agartha was preparing for the 2026/27 Women's Division One League season before her death.
Atuahene said Fabulous Ladies were yet to formally notify the Ghana Football Association (GFA) about the incident.
Speaking to Luv FM, he highlighted the financial challenges facing women's football in Ghana, explaining that players are registered as amateurs rather than professionals.
"Women's football is still young in Ghana," he said.
"Our players are registered as amateurs, not professionals, so we support them with only transportation costs."
