Ghanaian boxer Joseph Commey, popularly known as Jaguar, has missed out on a place in the final of the 2026 IBA Africa Elite Men and Women Boxing Championship in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.
Commey suffered a semi-final defeat to Cape Verde's Admolson Kevin in the light welterweight division, despite what his coach Charles Quartey described as a dominant performance from the Ghanaian.
The bout was closely contested, but Quartey expressed disappointment with the judges' decision, insisting Commey had done enough to secure victory.
According to the coach, he struggled to understand the scoring, having considered his boxer the better performer in the contest.
The defeat means Commey will settle for a bronze medal at the continental championship.
Meanwhile, Amadu Mohammed, nicknamed Crawford Jr, is the only Ghanaian boxer to reach the final of the competition.
Mohammed has already guaranteed himself at least a silver medal worth $10,000 and will now battle for the gold medal, which carries a $20,000 prize from the International Boxing Association (IBA).
