The Police have arrested a 40-year-old man, identified as Roger Borbobli, for allegedly possessing 91 parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp at the VIP Bus Terminal at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.
The arrest was made on October 29, 2026, after the Police received intelligence that the suspect had been seen at the terminal with 3 suitcases believed to contain narcotic substances.
According to the Police, some loading boys at the station became suspicious after detecting an unusual smell coming from the luggage and alerted officers.
A team of police personnel was subsequently dispatched to the terminal, where Borbobli was arrested. A search of the 3 suitcases allegedly uncovered 91 parcels of compressed dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
The suspect reportedly estimated the value of the seized substances at GH¢33,600.
During interrogation, Borbobli allegedly told investigators that he was a farmer from Sovie Kudzra, near Kpando in the Volta North Region. He claimed to have been cultivating Indian hemp but said the parcels recovered from him had been obtained from another farmer, identified only as Benjamin, from the same community.
The Police said the suspected narcotics would be forwarded to the Police Forensic Crime Laboratory for examination and analysis.
Borbobli remains in police custody and is assisting with investigations. He is expected to be arraigned before court.
