Bechem United president Kingsley Owusu Achau has welcomed the possibility of former Ghana captain Andre Ayew contesting the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidency next year.
Ayew, who currently serves as chief executive of Nania FC, has been linked with a potential bid to lead Ghana football, although he has yet to officially declare his intention to contest the position.
The former Olympique Marseille and West Ham United forward has reportedly received backing from several football personalities, with Owusu Achau expressing confidence in his ability to take up the role.
According to the Bechem United president, Ayew's maturity, experience and understanding of both Ghanaian and international football could make him a suitable candidate for the position.
"Well, I believe Dede Ayew is mature, and he has seen it all in Ghana football and world football at large," he told Accra-based Hot FM.
"So if he says he wants to be GFA president, it is refreshing. It's okay because he knows he is capable of doing it," Owusu Achau added.
Ayew, a member of Ghana's victorious 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup-winning squad, enjoyed a distinguished playing career in Europe and has captained the Black Stars at major international tournaments.
His potential candidacy could add another prominent name to the list of individuals expected to contest the GFA presidency when elections are held next year.
Other personalities tipped to enter the race include Samuel Annim Addo, former Brong Ahafo Regional Football Association chairman Ralph Gyambrah, Karela United chief executive Elloeny Amande and former GFA vice-president George Afriyie.
The GFA presidential contest is expected to attract considerable attention as stakeholders consider the future direction of football administration in Ghana.
