The mother of 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong, who was fatally shot in New York, is expected to travel to the United States on Tuesday, November 3, to attend her son's funeral.

Madam Doris Adu Gyamfi secured a US visa following an expedited process facilitated by the US Embassy in Accra, according to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

She will be accompanied by her niece, with the government maintaining that it will continue to engage US authorities over investigations into the teenager's death.

In a social media post on Tuesday, November 3, Okudzeto Ablakwa commended the US Embassy for processing the visas for the two family members within the same day.

“I wish to commend the US Embassy in Accra for the super expedited same-day processing of the visa of the mother and cousin of Javits Frimpong yesterday,” he wrote.

The minister also expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani for their intervention in facilitating the mother's travel to attend the funeral.

He assured the family that the Ghanaian government would continue to pursue justice for the deceased teenager and remain in contact with US authorities as investigations continue.

“The Government of Ghana remains in close communication with US authorities on the status of investigations. We shall have no rest until justice is manifestly done,” Mr Ablakwa stated.

Javits was fatally shot while walking to school in the Bronx, New York, on Thursday, October 29.

The 15-year-old sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen near East 171st Street and Crotona Place in the Claremont neighbourhood.

He was rushed to St Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Javits had moved from Ghana to the United States about a year earlier to live with his father, Thomas Frimpong, while his mother remained in Ghana.

His father has alleged that the teenager had experienced bullying at school before his death.

However, police have not established a motive for the shooting or confirmed any link between the alleged bullying and the killing.
