Ghana midfielder Kwasi Sibo made his debut in the CAF Champions League as Libyan side Al Swehly secured a 1-0 victory over Tunisia's Esperance de Tunis in the first leg of their second-round preliminary tie.

Sibo, who missed the first round of the preliminary competition, started in midfield as Al Swehly hosted the Tunisian giants at Misurata Stadium on Sunday.

Ayoub Ayed scored the decisive goal in the 64th minute to give the Libyan side a narrow advantage ahead of the return leg this weekend.

The result puts Al Swehly in a strong position to progress to the group stage, although they will need to avoid defeat in the second leg to maintain their hopes of advancing.

Sibo, a former Real Oviedo player, is expected to feature again as Al Swehly seek to complete the job and secure a place among the continent's leading clubs in the group phase.

Esperance finished the match on a sour note, with Youcef Belaïli shown a straight red card at full-time.

Sibo's involvement in the competition comes as he targets a return to the Ghana national team for next month's 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Somalia.

The midfielder is expected to be considered for Ghana's squad for the Matchday Three and Four fixtures as the Black Stars seek to strengthen their position in the qualifying campaign.

For now, Sibo will be focused on helping Al Swehly navigate the second leg and take another step towards reaching the CAF Champions League group stage.
