Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Ibrahim Sannie Daara says more than 400 coaches have applied for the vacant Black Stars head coach position.

Ghana are searching for a new head coach following the departure of Portuguese trainer Carlos Queiroz after the team's disappointing start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Queiroz left his post after the Black Stars suffered consecutive defeats against Côte d'Ivoire and The Gambia in their opening two Group C matches, leaving the four-time African champions bottom of the standings without a point.

A five-member committee established by the GFA in consultation with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation has been tasked with identifying a suitable replacement for the former Manchester United assistant manager. The committee is expected to submit its recommendations on Thursday.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Sannie Daara, who now serves as a Senior Media Officer at the Confederation of African Football (CAF), said the number of applicants reflected the interest in coaching the Ghana national team.

“More than 400 coaches have applied for the Black Stars job,” he said.

“Most of the coaches are looking for jobs, and most of them respect Ghana due to how we play. I can confirm that over 400 coaches have applied for the job,” he added.

Meanwhile, the GFA has confirmed that an interim technical team will oversee Ghana's next two matches in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.

The Black Stars are scheduled to face Somalia in a double-header next month, with both fixtures set to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium as part of Matchdays Three and Four.

Ghana are under pressure to revive their qualifying campaign after losing their opening two matches and missing out on the previous AFCON tournament in Morocco.

The appointment of a new head coach is expected to be a key step in the team's efforts to recover from their poor start and keep their hopes of qualifying for the 2027 tournament alive.
