Former Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz was unhappy with the lack of dedicated infrastructure for the Black Stars, according to Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Henry Asante Twum.

The 73-year-old Portuguese coach left his position on 1st October after Ghana made a poor start to their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

The Black Stars have lost both of their opening Group C matches and are bottom of the table without a point.

Ghana began their campaign with a 2-0 defeat by Ivory Coast before throwing away a two-goal lead in a 4-2 loss to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Asante Twum said the lack of a dedicated training base was among the factors that contributed to Queiroz's decision to leave.

"One of the reasons why Carlos Queiroz has left his role is the lack of infrastructure in the country," he told Kessben FM.

"Carlos Queiroz was surprised to find out that the Black Stars do not have a camp base where the team trains.

"He complained that he had never seen before that a national team does not have a camp base."

Asante Twum added that Queiroz was also concerned that the Black Stars train at the same venue where they play their home matches.

"He was disappointed to find out that where the team plays is the same place the team trains," he said.

"He believes that it affects the team and does not help in getting a proper pitch, but the situation is that we have only one approved stadium, and he gave a scientific basis for his reasons."

The GFA has since established a five-member committee to oversee the search for a new Black Stars coach. The committee is expected to submit its report to the Sports Ministry on Friday, 9 October.

Ghana now face a difficult task to revive their qualification campaign for the 2027 AFCON, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

The Black Stars are due to return to action in October with a double-header against Somalia, with both matches scheduled to be played at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Ghana are attempting to return to the continental tournament after failing to qualify for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
