Newly elected National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has extended an invitation to his former contenders to contribute their ideas, experience and networks to the party as it begins preparations for the 2028 general elections.
Mr Boadu, who secured victory in the party's national chairmanship election held at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, said the NPP must move beyond the contest and unite around a common purpose.
In his victory and acceptance speech after being declared winner and sworn into office alongside the other newly elected national executives in the early hours of Sunday, October 4, he stressed that the party's work towards its next electoral objective must begin immediately.
"To those who support us, we thank you for your confidence, to those who contested with us, I extend my hand of friendship and partnership. Your ideas, experience, networks and commitment belongs to the New Patriotic Party. There must be no winners and losers, only one NPP, united around one purpose," he said.
Mr Boadu also cautioned the party against treating electoral victory as something guaranteed, insisting that success must be built through effective organisation and service to the electorate.
"Political victory is never an entitlement," he said, adding that it "must be earned through service, organisation and credibility and the trust of the Ghanaian people."
He outlined a grassroots-focused approach to rebuilding the party, calling for stronger constituency structures and greater inclusion of various groups within the NPP.
"We must rebuild from the grassroot, through upwards, strengthen our constituency structures, empower our youth, support our women, value our professionals and listen to our traditional and religious leaders. We must embrace technology without abandoning the human relationships that have always sustained us," he said.
Mr Boadu's return to the national executive leadership marks a comeback after he lost his bid to retain the position of General Secretary in the party's 2022 elections.
He won the chairmanship contest with 2,888 votes, representing 47.19 per cent of the total votes cast.
His closest challenger, Boakye Kyeremanten Agyarko, polled 2,408 votes, representing 39.35 per cent.
Former National Chairman Paul Afoko, who was seeking a return to the position after his earlier tenure was truncated following his suspension in 2015, secured 790 votes, representing 12.90 per cent.
Sammy Crabbe polled 41 votes, representing 0.67 per cent.
Meanwhile, Justin Kodua Frimpong retained his position as NPP General Secretary after securing a decisive victory.
Mr Kodua polled 4,486 votes, the highest tally recorded by any candidate in the 2026 national executive elections.
His closest challenger, Sylvester Tetteh, obtained 1,340 votes.
Former Subin Member of Parliament Eugene Boakye Antwi, who shifted his political ambitions from Parliament to the party's national executive leadership, received 162 votes, while Dr Charles Dwamena polled 129 votes.
The newly elected leadership is expected to lead the NPP's organisational rebuilding efforts and position the party for the next general elections.
John Boadu's speech:
Today is not merely a day of victory, it is a day of responsibility and of great unity, he said.
“I stand before you with a heart full of humility and gratitude. I thank Almighty God for his grace and I thank every delegate who entrusted us with the responsibility of serving as national officers of our great party
To those who support us, we thank you for your confidence, to those who contested with us, I extend my hand of friendship and partnership. Your ideas, experience, networks and commitment belongs to the New Patriotic Party. There must be no winners and losers, only one NPP, united around one purpose.
Strong parties are not sustained by past achievements alone, they endure because they learn, renew themselves and respond courageously to a changing society.
Our task is to build a renewed NPP, one that listens more, consults more, organises better and prepares more deliberately for the future.
We are going to work closely with our regional executives, our constituency executives, our external branch members of our party, our members of parliament, the gallant great Minority lead by Afenyo-Markin, our patrons and every organised group that strengthens our party.
I'll deepen our relationship with the voluntary groups, TESCON members, social media practitioners and traditional media because a modern political organisation must engage every means of communicating responsibly.
Our young people must feel that the NPP is their home, our tertiary institutions must become centers of constructive political dialogue and leadership development. Education has always been central to our philosophy and development, we will continue to demonstrate that commitment.
We will also work closely with our flagbearer and our leader, including all the national leadership to strengthen the organisation and financial foundation of the party, especially for our constituency party. We will engage the business community and Ghanaian entrepreneurs with openness and respect and continue to advance policies that expand opportunities and enterprise to flourish.
Political victory is never an entitlement, it must be earned through service, organisation and credibility and the trust of the Ghanaian people, that is why our preparations begins now, we must rebuild from the grassroot, through upwards, strengthen our constituency structures, empower our youth, support our women, value our professionals and listen to our traditional and religious leaders. We must embrace technology without abandoning the human relationships that have always sustained us.
So I make this commitment, we will serve the New Patriotic Party with humility, lead through consultation, work with our part of our party and dedicate this mandate to the winning machinery of our great party, let us choose unity over division, service over personal
