Medeama SC moved to the top of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League table after a 1-0 victory over debutants Debibi United on a weekend of closely contested Matchday Five fixtures.

The defending champions secured all three points at the Debibi Presby Park through Nana Kofi Babil's 69th-minute goal after the two sides had gone into the break level.

Medeama's victory lifted them to the summit, with FC Samartex, Port City FC and Aduana FC completing the top four.

Asante Kotoko also returned to winning ways with a narrow 1-0 victory over Karela United at the Baba Yara Stadium on Thursday.

Isaac Opoku Agyemang scored the only goal of the game in the first half to give the Porcupine Warriors an important three points.

There were two goalless draws elsewhere, with Dreams FC sharing the spoils with Hearts of Oak at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, while Vision FC and Bibiani Gold Stars also settled for a point at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex.

Aduana FC continued their impressive start to the campaign with a 2-1 home victory over 10-man Swedru All Blacks at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park.

Williams Dankwah gave the visitors an early lead after just four minutes, but Stephen Amankona restored parity in the 38th minute.

Amankona then completed the comeback from the penalty spot in the 86th minute to secure victory for the two-time champions. Swedru All Blacks finished the match with 10 men after Zayat Abubakari was sent off.

Basake Holy Stars also claimed a narrow home win, beating Berekum Chelsea 1-0 at the AAK II Park.

Francis Asante's sixth-minute goal proved decisive as the hosts held on for all three points.

At the Kpando Stadium, Heart of Lions edged 10-man FC AshantiGold 3-2 in a five-goal thriller.

William Oduro opened the scoring for AshantiGold in the 19th minute, but Raphael Kwame Junior Ankamah equalised three minutes later.

Ankamah scored his second after the break to reduce the deficit, but Heart of Lions held on for the victory.

Debutants Port City FC produced one of the biggest results of the weekend, beating Bechem United 3-1 at the Daasebre Boamah Darko II Park.

Hamza Zakari opened the scoring in the 18th minute before Owusu Ansah doubled the advantage in the 34th minute.

Francis Acquah pulled one back for Bechem United in the 53rd minute, but Ansah restored Port City's two-goal advantage three minutes later to complete his brace.

FC Samartex rounded off the weekend with a 1-0 victory over Young Apostles at the Nsenkyire Sports Complex.

Christian Agyenim Boateng's 45th-minute goal was enough to secure victory for the home side.

After five rounds of matches, Medeama lead the table, followed by FC Samartex, Port City FC and Aduana FC.

At the other end, Berekum Chelsea, Young Apostles and Dreams FC occupy the relegation places.
