Godwin Attram replaces Desmond Ofei as assistant Black Stars coach before AFCON qualifiers

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has appointed former Ghana midfielder Godwin Attram as an assistant coach of the Black Stars ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Attram replaces Desmond Ofei, who will now focus exclusively on his role as head coach of Ghana's Under-23 side, the Black Meteors.

The GFA said the change forms part of a technical restructuring as the senior national team prepares for the start of its qualifying campaign this month.

"The Ghana Football Association (GFA) wishes to announce the appointment of former Ghana international Godwin Attram as Assistant Coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars," the association said in a statement.

It added that Attram's experience as both a player and coach made him a valuable addition to the technical team.

The former PSV Eindhoven and Silkeborg IF playmaker has previously managed Great Olympics and has worked within Ghana's national youth team set-up, earning recognition for his player development work and modern coaching approach.

Ofei had combined responsibilities with the Black Stars alongside coaching the Black Satellites before taking charge of the Black Meteors. He will now concentrate on preparing the U-23 team for the next Olympic Games qualifying campaign.

Ghana begin their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign with a difficult away fixture against Côte d'Ivoire in Bouaké on 24 September.

The Black Stars will then host The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on 27 September before concluding the international window with a friendly against Morocco in Tangier on 4 October.
