Founder’s Day: Mahama urges Ghanaians to draw inspiration from Nkrumah’s vision

President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghanaians to draw inspiration from the vision of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, as the country marks Founder’s Day.

Mr Mahama said Nkrumah’s pursuit of liberty, Pan-African unity and self-reliance had left an enduring legacy for Ghana and Africa.

He said the country’s nation-building efforts remains unfinished and called on Ghanaians at home and abroad to contribute to building a prosperous and equitable country.

In a social media post on Monday, September 21, the President said Nkrumah’s declaration that “the black man is capable of managing his own affairs” continues to underpin Ghana’s national pride.

“He was a visionary whose relentless pursuit of liberty, Pan-African unity, and self-reliance placed Ghana as a beacon of hope on the global stage,” Mr Mahama said.

He said the occasion should not only be used to honour Nkrumah’s legacy but also to reflect on the responsibilities of present-day Ghanaians in advancing national development.

Mr Mahama urged citizens to rise above divisions and embrace what he described as selfless patriotism as the government pursues its Resetting Ghana Agenda.

“Just as Nkrumah fought for our political independence, we have a collective duty today to build a prosperous, equitable, and resilient Ghana,” he said.

Founder’s Day is observed on September 21, which marks the birth anniversary of Dr Nkrumah.
