CAF boss Motsepe confident of joint visa deal for AFCON 2027 hosts

CAF president Dr Patrice Motsepe says he is confident Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda will agree on a joint visa arrangement ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

The three East African nations will jointly host the tournament, marking the first time AFCON has been staged across the region.

Motsepe said discussions between the relevant authorities are already underway and expressed optimism that a common visa system would be introduced for the tournament.

“I am confident that there will be a joint visa arrangement,” Motsepe said.

A joint visa framework would make it easier for supporters, teams and officials to travel between the three host countries during the competition.

With fans expected to travel across borders to attend matches in different host cities, simplifying entry requirements is regarded as an important part of the preparations for the 2027 tournament.

CAF has urged Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda to coordinate their preparations closely as work continues on the infrastructure required to host the competition.

CAF officials are assessing progress on stadiums, transport networks, accommodation and training facilities, while the three countries continue preparations through their respective governments, football associations and local organising committees.

Motsepe has stressed the importance of the hosts working together to ensure the tournament is delivered as a unified East African event.

The introduction of a joint visa arrangement would form part of efforts to make movement between the three countries easier during the competition and support the expected influx of supporters from across Africa and beyond.

AFCON 2027 is scheduled to take place from 19 June to 17 July, with Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda sharing hosting responsibilities.
