Tariq Lamptey injured in QPR draw with Charlton

Ghana international Tariq Lamptey was forced off with an injury during Queens Park Rangers' Championship meeting with Charlton Athletic on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old right-back was substituted after 36 minutes, after appearing to pick up an injury during the game.

Lamptey was able to walk off the pitch without assistance, but his early departure brought an end to his fifth consecutive appearance for QPR.

The nature and severity of the injury are not yet known, with Lamptey expected to undergo further assessment to determine how long he could be sidelined.

The setback comes at an unfortunate time for the defender, who had recently established himself in the QPR side after an injury-disrupted spell in Italy with Fiorentina.

Lamptey joined QPR permanently as a free agent during the summer transfer window, having previously spent time with Brighton & Hove Albion and Fiorentina.

His latest injury could raise concerns over his availability for Ghana's upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in September.

The Black Stars are due to begin their qualifying campaign this month, and Lamptey's fitness will now be monitored closely ahead of the international break.

Further medical examinations are expected to provide a clearer indication of the extent of the injury and whether the defender will be fit to join the Ghana squad.
