Asante Kotoko director of football Stanley Menzo says the club made the right decision by appointing Eric Tinkler as their new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
The South African coach was confirmed as the new head of the Porcupine Warriors as the club looks to rebuild after a disappointing campaign.
Kotoko failed to finish in the top four last season, prompting the club to make changes to their technical team as they prepare for the new campaign.
Tinkler, who has previously managed South African sides including Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City, has been tasked with guiding Kotoko back to the top end of Ghanaian football.
Menzo said the club had carefully considered its options before settling on the experienced coach.
"We appointed the best coach we could have. He has built clubs to a high standard," Menzo told the club's official media.
Tinkler will now begin the task of shaping a squad capable of challenging for major honours, with Kotoko hoping for a much-improved campaign.
The Reds are currently in Accra as they step up preparations for the new season.
Their preparations will include a high-profile meeting with rivals Hearts of Oak in the 2026 Democracy Cup, which will provide Tinkler with an early opportunity to assess his team against one of Ghana's biggest clubs.
Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko will open their 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season with an away game against Debibi United.
