Pape Thiaw demands 423.8m CFA from Senegal FA over unpaid salaries and bonuses

Senegal head coach Pape Thiaw has formally demanded payment of 423.82 million CFA francs (about €646,000) from the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) over what he says are outstanding salaries, bonuses and other contractual payments.

The demand was contained in a formal notice served on the federation on 13 August 2026 by a court bailiff in Dakar, acting on behalf of Thiaw and his legal representatives.

According to the document, Thiaw signed a three-year employment contract with the FSF, running from 1 March 2026 until 28 February 2029. The agreement reportedly provides for a monthly net salary of 30 million CFA francs, with the remuneration payable retroactively from the start date of the contract.

However, Thiaw’s lawyers claim that the coach has not received any salary since March 2026.

The formal demand also alleges that Thiaw has yet to receive his signing bonus and a special bonus stipulated in his contract. In addition, the coach is said to have personally covered expenses related to a tour between 11 and 19 April 2026, with an invoice submitted to the federation in May still unpaid.

Thiaw is seeking 180 million CFA francs in unpaid salaries covering March to August 2026, calculated at 30 million CFA francs per month.

A further 90 million CFA francs is being demanded as the outstanding portion of his signing bonus, while 30 million CFA francs is listed as a special bonus due to the coach.

The claim also includes 10.7163 million CFA francs in expenses, 12 million CFA francs in housing allowance and 1.104 million CFA francs for a fuel allowance.

The largest additional component is a 100 million CFA franc payment described in the document as bonuses linked to winning the Africa Cup of Nations and qualifying for the FIFA World Cup.

In total, the outstanding amount claimed by Thiaw stands at 423,820,300 CFA francs.

The notice was addressed to FSF president Abdoulaye Fall and calls on the federation to settle the debt within eight days of receiving the formal demand.

Thiaw’s legal team warned that failure to resolve the matter could result in judicial proceedings. The document also states that the formal notice constitutes a legal demand capable of triggering interest applicable to contractual debts.

The dispute comes as Thiaw continues to occupy one of the most important positions in Senegalese football. His contract, according to the document, was intended to provide him with financial security through a fixed salary and a series of bonuses and allowances.

The legal action suggests that the two sides have so far failed to reach an agreement over the payments due under the contract.

For now, the demand gives the Senegalese federation an opportunity to settle the matter before the case proceeds further. Should no agreement be reached within the stated period, Thiaw’s representatives could take the dispute to court to recover the money they claim is owed to the coach.

The FSF has not, in the documents provided, set out its position on the allegations or disputed the amount claimed by Thiaw.
