GHALCA and SWAG hold consultative meeting to revive interest in Ghana football

The Executive Council of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) has engaged the leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) in a consultative meeting aimed at exploring practical ways to improve Ghanaian football and attract more fans to match venues.

The meeting held at the SWAG premises brought together representatives of both organisations in a cordial and constructive atmosphere. The discussions focused on the need for stronger collaboration between football clubs, administrators and the sports media to restore confidence in domestic football and make match day experiences more attractive to supporters.

Among the key issues discussed was the declining attendance at league match venues. The two sides acknowledged that getting fans back to the stadiums requires more than simply improving the quality of football. Factors such as match day entertainment, stadium facilities, security, ticketing, publicity, scheduling and fan engagement were identified as important areas requiring attention.

The meeting also highlighted the crucial role of the media in promoting domestic football. SWAG expressed its readiness to work with GHALCA and other football stakeholders to tell positive stories about the league, promote clubs and players, and create greater excitement around matches.

GHALCA, on its part, stressed the importance of making the domestic league more attractive and competitive while improving the overall experience for supporters. The Association believes that when fans feel valued and entertained, they are more likely to return to the stadium and support their clubs.

Both organisations agreed that regular consultation and collaboration among stakeholders are essential to finding sustainable solutions to the challenges confronting Ghana football. They also recognised that restoring the passion for domestic football will require a collective effort from clubs, players, administrators, the media, sponsors and supporters.

The engagement therefore marked an important step towards building stronger relationships between GHALCA and SWAG, with both sides committed to contributing to the growth and development of Ghana football.
