Asante Kotoko will 2026/27 Ghana Premier League under Eric Tinkler - Sarfo Duku

Former Asante Kotoko Communications Director Sarfo Duku believes new head coach Eric Tinkler still has a genuine opportunity to guide the Porcupine Warriors to Ghana Premier League glory despite the obstacles confronting the club.

Duku admitted that Tinkler faces a difficult task following his appointment, particularly due to the timing of his arrival and the club’s injury situation.

However, he believes a change in attitude and commitment from the players could significantly improve Kotoko’s chances.

Speaking in an interview with Luv FM, Duku said: "It will be difficult for Eric Tinkler to win the league this season, considering the timing and injuries," Duku said.

"However, if the players change their attitude, he can win it for Asante Kotoko," he added.

Tinkler, who recently took over as head coach of the record Ghana Premier League champions, has been handed the responsibility of reviving the club’s title ambitions after a challenging period.

The South African coach arrives at a crucial point as Kotoko prepare for the 2026/27 campaign, with injuries to key players posing an early challenge for his plans.

Duku also revealed that he had pushed for the appointment of a foreign coach before his exit from the club, citing concerns over discipline and the relationship between the playing body and the technical team.

“Things were not going well between the playing body and the technical team. I believe we needed somebody to change the attitude of the boys, and the coaches were struggling to take some bold decisions.”

Asante Kotoko will open their 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign away from home against newly promoted Debibi United FC before hosting Hearts of Lions in their first home fixture of the season.
