WAFU B U-20 Championship: Our elimination will not demotivate us - Black Satellites coach Maxwell Konadu

Black Satellites head coach Maxwell Konadu believes Ghana’s disappointing outing at the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship will serve as a motivation rather than a setback as the team prepares for the 2027 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana’s campaign in the regional tournament ended in disappointment after the team finished third in Group B with just two points from three matches.

The Black Satellites were eliminated following a goalless draw against Togo in their final group game, a result that summed up a difficult competition for the West African giants.

Despite failing to meet expectations, Konadu remains confident the experience will help his young players develop and prepare better for future challenges.

The former Asante Kotoko head coach urged the squad not to lose confidence, stressing that the disappointment should serve as a learning opportunity.

“This is not going to demotivate us. Rather, it will encourage us to give our best. We have to move on, reorganise ourselves and come back stronger,” Konadu said.

Ghana, who have a rich history in youth football, will host the 2027 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations as part of celebrations marking the country’s 70th Independence Anniversary.

Konadu is hopeful the lessons from the WAFU B tournament will help the Black Satellites build a more competitive side capable of challenging for honours on home soil.
