The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, widely known as General Mosquito, has jokingly offered to act as Chairman of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) to help resolve its internal problems.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Ambassador TV host Osei Kwadwo, monitored by MyNewsGH.com, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah expressed worry over what he described as the NPP’s weak and disorganized state.
“It is dangerous when the largest opposition party like the NPP lacks leadership. It is making the party weak and unpopular. That is not good for our politics and democracy,” he said.
He added that he would avail himself to serve as acting Chairman of the NPP if given the opportunity.
Commenting on the 20-year sentence handed to Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, alias Chairman Wontumi, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah said no serious political party would rally behind him.
“Assuming Chairman Wontumi were a member of the NDC and I was National Chairman, I would never mobilize party members to follow Wontumi, as NPP leaders are doing,” he stated.
“The NPP should allow Chairman Wontumi to carry his own cross because he himself knows he is guilty. The way NPP leaders are handling Wontumi’s illegal mining issue will cost the party in the 2028 elections,” he added.
“As Chairman of the governing party, I believe we need a strong opposition to constructively criticize government. But with what NPP leaders are doing, Ghanaians will never take them seriously, even if they criticize constructively,” he said.
