Mahama holds bilateral talks with Jamaican leaders

Ghana's President, John Dramani Mahama has held high-level bilateral talks with Jamaican government officials as part of his four-day State Visit to the Caribbean nation, with discussions focused on strengthening trade, investment, cultural cooperation and broader South-South partnerships.

On Monday, August 8, President Mahama and his delegation were formally received at King’s House in Kingston by the Governor-General of Jamaica, Sir Patrick Allen, and Lady Allen.

The visit began with a ceremonial welcome, during which President Mahama inspected a Guard of Honour before holding a courtesy call with the Governor-General and Lady Allen.

The President later proceeded to the Office of the Prime Minister, where he was received by Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness.

President Mahama signed the official guest book before the two leaders held a private meeting to discuss issues of mutual interest and explore opportunities to deepen bilateral cooperation.

The meeting was followed by formal bilateral talks between the Ghanaian and Jamaican delegations.

According to the Presidency, discussions centred on expanding trade and investment, promoting cultural and educational exchanges, and strengthening collaboration on regional and global issues of shared interest.

The day’s engagements concluded with a joint media briefing at the Executive Building, where President Mahama and Prime Minister Holness outlined the outcomes of their discussions and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the longstanding diplomatic and historical ties between Ghana and Jamaica.
