Ghana Boxing Federation names 10-member team for Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games

The Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) has announced a 10-member boxing team to represent the country at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

The squad, made up of seven male boxers and three female athletes, will compete under the Black Bombers and Black Hitters banners as Ghana seeks to make a strong impression at the global multi-sport event.

Leading the men’s team is experienced light welterweight boxer Abdul Wahid Omar, who has been named team captain.

He will compete in the 65kg category alongside Amadu Mohammed (Bantamweight – 55kg), Ebenezer Ankrah (Lightweight – 60kg), Precious Akai Nettey (Light Middleweight – 70kg), Desmond Pappoe (Light Heavyweight – 80kg), Jibril Muntari (Heavyweight – 92kg) and Daniel Plange (Super Heavyweight – 92kg).

The women’s team, known as the Black Hitters, features Ramatu Quaye in the Flyweight division (51kg), Nancy Bamfo in the Bantamweight category (54kg), and Adelaide Djabatey, who will compete in the Featherweight division (57kg).

The technical team for the boxing contingent will be led by head coach Ofori Asare, with Charles Quartey and Daniel Lartekwei Lartey serving as assistant coaches.

The Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026 will provide another opportunity for Ghanaian boxers to showcase their talent on the international stage, with boxing remaining one of the country’s strongest sporting disciplines.

The Black Bombers have historically been Ghana’s biggest medal contributors at major multi-sport competitions, and the team will be aiming to continue that tradition in Scotland.
