Prison is not a place I would wish for anyone" — Nana Agradaa on Chairman Wontumi's 20-year sentence

Evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, has spoken candidly about the harsh realities of prison life following the recent sentencing of NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Chairman Wontumi, to 20 years imprisonment in connection with an illegal mining (galamsey) case.

Reports indicate the conviction relates to offences linked to illegal mining activities, with the court handing down the custodial sentence after finding him guilty.

Drawing from her own experience behind bars, Mama Pat said prison is an extremely difficult place and one she would never wish on anyone, regardless of their background or status.

According to the outspoken evangelist, imprisonment strips people of their dignity and freedom, forcing inmates to adjust to a completely different way of life.

She explained that inmates are required to bathe naked in the presence of one another, leaving little or no privacy.

"No matter who you are, when you get there, everyone bathes naked and sees each other's nakedness," she said.

Mama Pat further noted that sleeping conditions in prison are far from comfortable, adding that inmates do not enjoy the peace and comfort of their own homes.

"You won't get enough sleep or the kind of comfort you have in your own house. You also lose your freedom because every aspect of your life is controlled," she added.

Her remarks come from personal experience after she was convicted on July 3, 2025, on charges including defrauding by false pretence and charlatanic advertisement in connection with her widely publicised money-doubling scheme. She was initially sentenced to 15 years' imprisonment, although the sentence was later reduced on appeal.
