2026 Commonwealth Games: Team Ghana’s gold medallists to receive US$10,000

The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has announced an improved medal bonus package for Team Ghana ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, with gold medallists set to earn US$10,000 for their achievements.

Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Iddie Adams revealed the enhanced reward scheme during a meeting with Team Ghana in Glasgow, outlining increased financial incentives for athletes who secure podium finishes at the multi-sport event.

Under the new package, silver medallists will receive US$3,000, while bronze medallists will be rewarded with US$2,000.

Adams explained that the adjustment is aimed at motivating Ghanaian athletes to compete at their highest level and improve the country’s medal prospects at the Games.

In addition to the official government package, the Minister announced a personal commitment to reward every Ghanaian athlete who wins a gold medal with an extra US$1,000.

“We have increased the prize money for all our athletes. A gold medallist will be given US$10,000, while silver medallists will receive US$3,000 and bronze medallists US$2,000,” Adams told Sporty FM.

“I have personally decided to add US$1,000 to each athlete’s prize money,” he added.

The Ministry said the revised incentive structure demonstrates the government’s commitment to recognising sporting excellence, improving athlete welfare and encouraging more Ghanaian competitors to achieve podium success.

Adams further urged Team Ghana members to approach the Commonwealth Games with discipline, determination and a strong sense of national pride, assuring athletes, coaches and officials of the government’s continued support throughout the competition.

The 2026 Commonwealth Games will provide Ghanaian athletes with another opportunity to showcase their talent on the international stage as they seek to add to the country’s sporting legacy.
